Who Dr. Kim works with

Dr. Kim works with adults who want care built around their situation rather than a general program. Some have been in therapy before and are looking for a fresh approach. Some are managing intense or shifting emotions. Others are working on difficulties that have persisted despite previous treatment.

Her clinical work includes mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, and serious mental illness, including complex and persistent conditions.

Each treatment plan starts from a thorough assessment and is built for the individual rather than drawn from a generic protocol. Progress is reviewed together, and the plan changes as needs change.

What doctoral-level care means

Dr. Kim holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Doctoral training in clinical psychology combines psychotherapy, psychological testing and assessment, and research.

Her clinical experience spans outpatient clinics, hospitals, psychiatric facilities, and diagnostic treatment centers. She is well versed in psychological testing and assessment, is a published researcher, and has held psychology and neurobiology research positions at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University, and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

For complex situations, that training shows up as a careful assessment at the start and a treatment plan grounded in it. When medication is part of the picture, Dr. Kim coordinates with psychiatrists and physicians so care runs on one track.

Approaches, including DBT

Dr. Kim takes an integrative approach, drawing on several evidence-based therapies and selecting the combination that fits each person's goals.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach built around four skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. It is well suited to intense emotions and to recurring patterns in relationships, and Dr. Kim has specialized training in it.

Availability is kept intentionally limited so that each client receives a high level of clinical attention and a consistent, personal therapeutic relationship.

As a private pay practice, care is guided by clinical judgment rather than insurance authorization or network limits. Fees and superbills are explained on the Rates & Insurance page.
