Meet Dr. Kim

The person behind the practice

Dr. Josephine Kim is a clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, behavioral problems, interpersonal difficulties, substance abuse, and serious mental illness. She works with children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Dr. Kim believes in a personalized and collaborative approach to therapy, viewing each individual and their challenges as unique. She employs evidence-based techniques from a diverse range of theoretical orientations to tailor her approach to meet each patient's specific needs. By integrating methods from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), third-wave therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), person-centered therapy, and psychodynamic approaches, she ensures that her treatment plans align with each person's goals and challenges. Additionally, Dr. Kim emphasizes cultural sensitivity and diversity, using a strengths-based perspective to incorporate sociocultural factors into her patients' case conceptualizations and treatment plans.

With extensive clinical experience, Dr. Kim has worked with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, groups, and families, in various settings such as outpatient clinics, hospitals, psychiatric facilities, and diagnostic treatment centers. She has received specialized training in CBT, DBT, forensic interviewing and evaluations, treatment of adjudicated juveniles and high-risk behaviors, as well as play and art therapy, trauma-focused CBT, and sports psychology, having worked with Division I athletes. Dr. Kim is also well-versed in a variety of psychological testing and assessments and is a published researcher in psychology.

She earned her bachelor's degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and Rutgers University, master's degrees from Georgetown University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, and doctorate in clinical psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
