Ages 5 through college
Therapy looks different at every age, and Dr. Kim adapts her approach to each young person's developmental stage and way of communicating.
Younger children
Young children often express through play and drawing what they cannot yet put into words, so Dr. Kim relies on play therapy and art therapy as the main ways in. Sessions give children a safe, inviting space to work through fears and practice new ways of interacting.
Middle school
School-age children move toward a mix of activity and conversation, building practical coping skills for the pressures and friendships of those years.
High school
With teenagers, Dr. Kim blends talk therapy with CBT, DBT skills, and motivational interviewing. She meets teens where they are and is particularly skilled at engaging teens who are reluctant or skeptical about therapy.
The college transition
Because Dr. Kim also works with adults, college students can continue with her rather than starting over. She is authorized through PSYPACT to provide telehealth across 43 states and jurisdictions.
School, academic, and social pressure
Dr. Kim works often with high-achieving students and their parents on test anxiety, perfectionism, focus, and the stress that high expectations can quietly create.
She helps students who are coping with academic pressure, navigating friendships and peer relationships, dealing with bullying, or building motivation, and she coordinates with schools when that supports a student's plan.
When questions center on learning or attention, Dr. Kim also offers psychoeducational evaluations that can support IEP, 504, and SAT or ACT accommodation requests.
Emotional and behavioral support
Beyond school, Dr. Kim provides therapy for children and teens around worry and fearfulness, sadness or withdrawal, anger and frustration, behavior at home or school, and adjusting to family changes such as divorce, relocation, or loss.
She also works with young people and families navigating ADHD, learning differences, or the autism spectrum, and with questions of self-esteem and identity. Her training includes Trauma-Focused CBT, a specialized, evidence-based approach for children and adolescents.
More detail is on the Child & Adolescent Therapy page.

How parents work with Dr. Kim
Parents speak with Dr. Kim herself, not an intake coordinator. The first step can be a parent consultation on its own, before a child is involved, to talk through concerns, school and family background, and a realistic plan for raising the subject at home.
Once therapy begins, Dr. Kim meets regularly with parents to share observations and offer practical strategies for home. Children and teens keep a confidential space for their sessions. Parents receive updates on themes, progress, and any safety concern, and those limits are explained to everyone at the start.
She also coordinates with schools, pediatricians, and other professionals involved in a child's care, so everyone is working from the same plan.

Common questions
What ages do you see?
Children from age 5, teenagers, and young adults through the college years. Younger children work mainly through play and art, school-age children through a mix of activity and conversation, and teens through talk-based work with CBT and DBT skills.
Do parents attend sessions?
Parents are involved throughout. Dr. Kim meets with parents regularly to share observations and strategies, and a first appointment can be a parent consultation alone. Children and teens also need a confidential space, so parents receive updates on themes, progress, and any safety concern rather than a word for word account.
How do you coordinate with schools?
Dr. Kim coordinates closely with schools, pediatricians, and other professionals involved in a child's care. For questions about learning or attention, psychoeducational evaluations can support IEP, 504, and SAT or ACT accommodation requests.
Do you take insurance?
Restorative Mind Psychology is a private pay, out-of-network practice and does not participate directly with insurance panels. Upon request, a monthly superbill is provided for families who seek out-of-network reimbursement, and depending on the plan, partial reimbursement may be available. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
What happens after I submit the form?
Dr. Kim reviews the request and replies within one business day to arrange a parent consultation. Sessions are held in person at 155 N Dean St, Suite 3B, Englewood, with secure telehealth also available. Details about your child are discussed privately at that point, not through the form.
